WHO WE ARE

CM is a visualisation studio specialising in digital representations of architecture and heritage.

CM will be responsible for the digital modelling and reconstruction portions of the brief.

Chris Hamill (founder) is an architect and is also just about to submit a PhD thesis in Digital Interpretation of Built Heritage

Hot Knife

HK is a multi-media animation studio working extensively in the heritage and museum sector.

HK will be primarily responsible for the digital implementation of the digital interpretation strategy and outputs, including the VR design of the 3D models, the public engagement app design, and also the web integration of all outputs.

HOW WE WILL WORK WITH YOU

  • Hot Knife to be lead  digital interpretation consultant and main point of Client communications
     

  • Task responsibilities between CM and HK laid out opposite
     

  • ​We will engage regularly with the Client team for meetings, progress reports, feedback opportunities and requests for information
     

  • Through regular meetings and presentations the Client will have the ability to direct the digital outputs
     

  • Sign-off dates for key production milestones TBA with Client team

PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT

  • Both CM and HK have extensive experience in public engagement.

  • [Opposite]  'My Local Heritage' event and mapping exercise carried out with 15-17 year old pupils in Armagh, NI

  • Chris' PhD research has centred on oral history work with older, vulnerable women and other groups, using digital heritage as a memory prompt.

  • ​Chris also teaches first year UG architecture and has extensive experience of public engagement events from working as an architect.

  • Hot Knife have an extensive catalogue of projects working with public engagement in the museum / heritage sector, such as Riot 1831 at Nottingham Castle, and The Mine with artist Jay Price and Shape Arts.

ACCESSIBILITY

  • Project Example: Nottingham caves VR is an exploration of two of the 400+ caves under Nottingham City Centre. This experience allowed lower mobility users to explore areas they can no longer access.

  • All digital outputs designed to meet W3C Single ‘A’ accessibility standards

  • All outputs designed in line with NHLF Digital good practice guidance 2024, maintained for 5 years CC-BY4.0 open licence

  • Attendance at 4no. public engagement events (of Client's choosing).
     

  • Attendance at 3no. school engagement events.
     

  • All necessary printing and equipment hire included in cost.

Extra: Public Engagement App

  • Separate lesson plans for younger and older pupils
     

  • Lesson planned around AR board game
     

  • Students gather around physical boards which have tasks and questions printed
     

  • Using mobile devices, the students will augment the model of the farm house onto the board to explore and answer the set questions

.5 CONSTRUCTION TIMELAPSE

  • Time lapse photography, 3-4 photos per day Aug 24 - Jan 26
     

  • Post-production of video, including colour-grading, music and intro/outro included in quoted cost
     

  • Location of camera on site TBA with Client & Contractor
     

  • Equipment to be named item in Contractor's site insurances

ADDITIONAL OUTPUTS

CGI RENDERINGS OF PROPOSED SCHEME

  • We will produce 5no. CGI internal views at no additional cost.
     

  • The Client team can specify the location of each.
     

  • These can be very useful marketing, engagement and social media tools.

  • Typical CGI market cost = £600-£1000 per image

CONTRIBUTION TO PROJECT PUBLICATION

  • We have previously contributed to academic publications produced from our projects.
     

  • We would be happy to contribute to such a publication here with the rest of the team.
     

  • This can be a great way to expand project reach and impact.
